We are looking for team-oriented individuals who are prepared for a challenging and satisfying career in our community. In our next round, we will be looking forpeople with firefighting / rescue experience, through job experience (fulltime or volunteer), or pre-service college.

BACKGROUND
We conduct recruitments every few years based on retirements.
The process is open to all candidates who meet
the minimum requirements of Age 18, have a valid
Ontario Driver's License and a Grade 12 diploma.
A notice is posted in local newspapers, on this
Fire Website, the City of Peterborough Website,
and in the office of Canadian Human Resource
Employment Centre. In the past, candidates submitted
a detailed application and package of diplomas,
and certifications. Those who qualified, wrote
an entrance exam, then successful candidates
were requested to complete a Physical Test and
Job Skills Test.
Successful candidates are interviewed by City
staff and Fire Department personnel. The process
is under review and will be posted leading up
to the Recruitment Competition.
Peterborough Fire & Rescue subscribes to
the Office of the Fire Marshal's Firefighter Curriculum
for Professional Firefighters. Training encompasses
the following areas:
- Fire Suppression Training
- Firefighter Survival and Rapid Intervention Training
- Emergency Medical Services: Defibrillation, First Aid / Trauma Care & CPR
- Auto Extrication Training
- Haz-Mat Training
- Water / Ice Rescue Training
- Rope Rescue Training
- Confined Space Rescue Training
- Carbon Monoxide Detection Training
- Computer Use & Dispatch Training
And special presentations by outside agencies.
